To bandage or not to bandage

Postby adele » Tue Oct 08, 2013 10:38 am

Lola has a big gash in her front pad. To me it looks horrendous but it is not bleeding - she is limping. I don't know when she cut herself and I never noticed any blood on the floor or carpet. But the gash is there and it's pink inside. So, I'm wondering if I should polysporin and bandage or just leave it. Bandages on the foot are such a pain, especially on a rainy day. Whaddaya think?

Personal opinion.....I'd just leave it. If it did not cut deep enough to bleed then you have little fear of infection. The Polysporin, though helpful to preclude infection, will not help the healing process. I would keep close watch to make sure Lola doesn't get rambunctious enough to possibly injure the area more, at least for the next week or so. If it is sore then she will be careful about what she does so don't try to make her more comfortable....tough love

Thanks, Barb. That's what I wanted to hear. Too bad, no walks today :(
