Total snowfall: 25 inches.

And I don't know if you're going to get any snow romp pics out of us. For whatever reason, our girls are complete wimps and will barely leave the deck.

We lucked out and only got about 15". Unfortunately that is sitting on top of the foot we got last weekend! Got plowed out yesterday but can't go anywhere because we're still 5 miles from the nearest county road that they maintain during storms. We did lose power yesterday for about 6 hours but were totally prepared. So we lit a fire in the fireplace, cooked burgers on the grill, hot clam chowder (my brother brought up from Hatteras), a candlelit dinner, some good laughs, and just as we were thinking about going to bed to stay warm (temps had dropped to the teens) the power came back on. We were so lucky compared to so many people. My goal today is to figure out how to get a path from the barn to the pasture free of ice so my horses don't break a leg.

All you guys with the deep snow - I feel your pain (literally) from all the shoveling. Hang in there because they're not predicting another storm again until mid week!!

Scratch that on my dogs being wimps. I heard a bunch of yelping outside last night, and I panicked because I couldn't see the girls out back - I thought they must have gotten stuck in a snow drift.

Nope, they were yelping for joy as they bounded like dolphins through the snow. I think my mom got some pictures this morning.

I have to make the same retraction. Buckley likes the snow under certain conditions. 1) It must no longer be snowing. 2) The temperature must be near freezing or warmer. 3) The snow must be relatively fluffy; once it gets dense and icy, no more.

Yesterday we were out cleaning the cars, driveway, and sidewalk again and the sun was shining. Buckley brought out his squeaky rubber fish and played for nearly two hours. He'd come and drop fish in the snow shovel for us to throw it and then have great fun trying to sniff out fish under the snow after it landed. He had a great time and he didn't counter surf last night or this morning. Exercise, exercise, exercise. :!:

Ok, official reading for my hometown is 27", and they're calling for another 6" Tues-Wed. But what's 6" when you already have 27"?

Maggie and Emma normally love the snow. However, Maggie says you have to draw the line somewhere, and she prefers snow up to her belly....NOT over her head!!!

You're absolutely right about that! After our 30" storm in December, the foot last weekend seemed almost like a flurry. This one is a little worse because it's so heavy and wet. Hope we don't get whatever is coming on Tuesday but it appears we're in the path agian.

Could you guys send some snow to Colorado?? We're craving it out here. And I hear that they're trucking and flying snow into Vancouver for the Olympics. It's a crazy world.. :?
Seriously though, I'm really sorry to hear about the amounts that you all are getting. I know how tough it is on everyone AND their dogs. More important is that everyone is staying warm with all the power outages. We're thinking of you all. Be careful and stay safe !!!!!

It hard, especially when you're not used to it. We got about a foot of light fluffy stuff. Everything looks clean and pretty again and that amount isn't hard to deal with. Nothing much to do but keep shoveling! (Cindy, I think your day sounds like a good time.)

Just heard that the National Weather Service upped the forecast from 5-10 inches to 10-20 inches starting tomorrow afternoon. Who needs to save vacation days for the nice weather when we can use it up shoveling snow. Will everyone please start burning more fossil fuels. We can't take any more of this cold, snowy weather.

Don't start citing literature, Brian. PhD (T-minus 2 months) in earth science. I will win that war. :)

  As long as you don't cite those climate models that just aren't making a lick of sense. It's so embarrassing when all those highly intelligent, hard working scientists just can't seem to reach the conclusions they theorized their data would show. When at first you don't succeed, rebrand. :P Don't let me git at ya. I's jus' a simple, country folk. Now if you be disputin' sumpin' you's seein', please point it out. I be pretty good at followin' a pointed finger.  But a-flountin' a piece of paper don't be impressin' me much. In the words of Stephen Vizinczey, "Strange as it seems, no amount of learning can cure stupidity, and higher education positively fortifies it." VT ain't a bad school....for a state university. 8)

But honestly, I'll read whatever anyone wants to throw out. I'm pretty good at reading, deciphering, analyzing, reasoning, thinking. But that's what one would expect from a summa cum laude grad from McDaniel College, one of the finest private colleges in MD...not to try to impress you with my piece of pretty paper. :P  Sorry....sometimes I can't help myself from makin' more noise than a jackass in a tin stable. 8)

Just watched our weather and they are saying another 6-12." I've definitely had it - and John and I are fighting because I want to buy a snow blower (I wanted to get one after the first 30" storm) and he says it will never snow like his again. He's probably right and that would be the best money I ever spent! I keep saying we could blow paths for the dogs and horses, not to mention the fact that I would be the one operating the equipment (that's what I like to do) and he could just sit on the couch, watch sports, and fix me something to eat/drink when I come inside. Come on guys .... don't you think that's a good deal?

LOL! I think it's a GREAT idea! And you're right-if you buy a snowblower, we won't have another snow like this for AT LEAST 5 years!

We had 36" of snow the year that we first moved into our house with the driveway from hell. Needless to say, we were unprepared. It took us 3 DAYS of non-stop shoveling till we could get out! DH then bought a HUGE snowplow, and barely even used it for the next few years!

Problem is, with this much snow-he has nowhere to push it, and gets stuck just trying to push it straight ahead. So a snowblower would be great. And like you said, it would be perfect for making paths. I shoveled so many pathways for the dogs to play. I shoveled partway up to the quail pens, but then my arms just gave out, so now it's a struggle to get up to the pens.

I say...go for it!!!
