Buster won some cash!!!

Postby Lisa » Sun Oct 16, 2011 8:41 pm

It was only $5, but hey, he still won some money for his momma this weekend at the USDAA show! I entered him in Performance Speed Jumping, and he placed on Saturday, putting him in round two today. He placed second today, and won a cash prize of $5. I was very surprised, especially since I didn't think we'd done well enough on Saturday to advance to round 2. I just happened to glance at the running order, saw his name and went "oh! I guess I should walk the course then!!"

Buster also earned a Q in P3 Snooker and a Q and his title in P2 Gamblers today. He had some other really nice runs even though they weren't Q's, and a few runs that were promptly deleted from the video camera because they were so bad. After 5 runs yesterday and 7 runs today, my boy is pooped. His last run today, we ended up walking off halfway through, because he just quit working...he was tired and he's never done this many runs before. He did try hard though, and we had fun.

If y'all want to see the videos, here's links to the videos I kept (notice there are no videos of his standard runs....there was livestock in pens just at the end of the ring, and Buster was totally fascinated with it, he kept running to the fence and it killed our standard runs. They were just disasters).

Performance Speed Jumping - Round 2 (note that every time the rooster crowed, it would distract Buster in the weaves the first time through!): http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g23/s ... =00038.mp4

P2 Gamblers - Saturday - NQ, we were one point short in the opening: http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g23/s ... =00029.mp4
P2 Gamblers - Sunday - Q, 1st, Title: http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g23/s ... =00037.mp4

P3 Jumpers - Saturday - NQ, refusal and 0.74 over time: http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g23/s ... =00027.mp4

P3 Snooker - Saturday - NQ, his opening was nice, but slow, screwed up the close: http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g23/s ... =00033.mp4
P3 Snooker - Sunday - Q and 3rd place: http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g23/s ... =00035.mp4

P2 Pairs - Sunday - NQ, there were some nice moments, but we just weren't fast enough: http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g23/s ... =00036.mp4

Oh, the videos were terrific.....I'm exhausted just watching the both of you tear around the arena :P  Buster just looks fantastic flying over the jumps, and up and down, and around......the two of you coordinating so well really shows how all the work has paid off in performance. Congratulations, the continued upward progress is IMPRESSIVE !!

 More like he paid for the meat I cooked as treats for him. Thanks, he was having fun!

 I have zero aspirations of taking him to Nationals and competing in the $10,000 Steeplechase. I'd be happy to just keep doing well locally and maybe earn a few more lunches from him.

Thank you! We definitely have fun. I have been re-watching his videos all day. I see spots where I screwed up, or areas I can improve, but mostly I'm just loving watching him have fun and really run the courses. I love seeing the progress we've made, especially with how distracting the venue was (those horses and roosters were waaaay more interesting than the agility courses).

Thanks! Well, technically, I'm saying "Buster, here!" or sometimes, just "BUSTER!" or just "HERE!" He responds best to "Buster, here" though. If I just call his name, I sometimes get the "what....I'm busy" attitude and if I just say "here" I get the "surely you don't mean ME" attitude. So, name, then cue....but, when I'm competing with interesting smells or livestock, well, sometimes I have to get right in his face to get his attention. I deleted the video where he ran to the fence, and stared at the horses. I had to get right up to him, stand in front of him, and say "HEY! Come here!!" Then he was like..."okay, but momma...did you see the horses?!" And, another run, he was on the table, and couldn't tear his eyes off the horses to lie down...again, I had to stand in front of him and block his view to get him to down on the table. In his gamblers run, he got ahead of me, but was working, so just his name was enough to turn him back to me so that I could get him pointed in the right direction, but just his name or just 'here" only works when he's really working and only needs some more direction.

Cool thanks for the info. My instructor has told me that I have to start saying, "Daisy here" when she goes away.... sometimes she just like to take a lap around the course.
I get the same response if I just call her name....
