Older dogs and anesthesia

Hi Its probably been years since I last poster but we still have our two brits Jack and Ruby. Ruby is now 15 1/2 yrs old. I was hoping not to do any more medical treatments on her, just comfort. But she has a sebaceous adenoma (benign) on her leg that irritates her (she licks it ever time she lies d...

Re: Sprained neck and bone spurs

Chirpractor crossed my mind and there is a certified animal one in the city I live but it is completely out of the way. Massage might be an idea though! I have been doing Healing Touch and Reiki (energy work) on her, and she seems to like it. Usually animals will get up and leave if they don't like ...

Sprained neck and bone spurs

Hi I wanted to see if anyone had experience with a dog with a sprained neck? My 14 year old girl, Ruby was diagnosed with a sprained neck and the xray also showed bone spurs. When she is in a position that causes pain it sound terrible. She is on muscle relaxants, pain medication and a narcotic. It'...

Re: How do I teach Lewis to stop PULLING on our walks!

Jack was big puller - prong collar didn't work. He really liked clicker training once we discovered it, so clicked and treated whenever he was in heel position on leash or off leash in the backyard. Did lots of training in doors and in classes first before trying it on walks outside. When we did go ...

Re: Poo eating ewww

We have been going outside with our dogs/ or monitoring them 95% of the time for the last 3 years to try and prevent the poop eating.
We haven't found something that worked otherwise. On the plus side we have 99% poop free yard for the kids to play in!

Feeding raw

A friend with English Setters switched her dogs over a couple of months ago. She said she was surprised to discover that her dogs no longer eat their own poop - a huge benefit! Has anyone else found this behaviour change after switching their dogs to raw? I think I would look more into feeding raw i...

Re: Where is everyone??

I haven't been around for months (instead of days). Our fourteen year old Ruby and 6 year old Jack had a grand time on their holidays trying off leash priviledges in the boreal forest. Ruby proved too deaf to pay attention even with hot dogs available, so she mostly stayed on leash. Jack did pretty ...

Re: how to tell a child?

Hi I found this book at a local store. We haven't had to deal with this particular situation with our 2 year old boy, but one of our dogs is 13yrs so I wanted to be prepared. It's a happy but sad read and I like it. Our condolences. http://www.amazon.ca/Ill-Always-Love-Hans-Wilhelm/dp/0517572656 Ann

Re: Oh, that dog!

I too found this once. I feel too bad not having anything in the crate. I went to the equivalent of the salvation army and got a HUGE piece of polar fleece fabric. I like it because: - they have only nibble two small holes - easier to wash and try - the size I got was big enough to fold 4 times so i...

Re: Chronic weight loss

I can't offer too much, I just hope these tests figure out what is going on with Buckley. On a lighter side... I speculated that my dog Jack put on some weight when he wasn't crated when I was on mat. leave. Since he is less anxious out of his crate I figured he wasn't burning calories panting and t...

Re: Without a doubt

Well, I am working hard during tax season, going to class AND it finally dried up enough to starting taking both dogs out for a walk with our little man in his stroller without being a total Gong show upon returning to the house...(how to get the kid and the stoller and two muddy dogs into the house...

Re: Digging Like Crazy, Help!

I can sometime stem the digging, but my method has to be repeated after any mositure and I don't have a driveway at stake. BIG bottle of tobasco sauce. Go out before they do, fix holes and then sprinkle with tobasco (generously). Or just sprinkly on the existing holes. My dogs at least really don't ...
