Re: Scare - she swallowed a 3" twig

Scary story for sure! But I was just trying to imagine how a dog can swallow a 3" stick without breaking it in pieces. :? Well, I guess a dog can do about anything when they put their mind to it. Glad she's OK. We wondered that too! It wasn't very thick but it was very tough. I couldn't snap/bend i...

Re: Rocket - Shocked

Call the manufacturer. We have a SportDog collar -- they have been amazing in replacing parts that were wearing out too quick or not giving enough range -- and that's 3 years after we bought. So try the manufacturer first, they will likely WANT to help you! Then even when it's fixed ... I would turn...

Scare - she swallowed a 3" twig

Hayley scared the daylights out of us a couple of weeks ago. During the extreme heat spell in Ontario, Hayley showed all the signs of heat stroke one afternoon. Rapid breathing, hot body, retching, kept dropping to the ground and couldn't go further. And she wouldn't drink. (We were at the cottage a...

Re: taking a britt camping

In the time leading up to your camping trip -- if it's possible! -- camp out in your backyard together for practice. Since you are both new to camping this is always a good idea. If you have a new tent .... remember to set the tent up completely at least once ... and turn on the hose to check it for...

Re: Mothering instinct ...

Thank you Barb -- you always have such interesting insight to share!! Yes ... she was happy to see us! It was cute -- she tried soooo hard to remember the "four on the floor" rule we taught her for greeting us and visitors. But she was wiggling so hard she finally just rolled upside down and waved a...

Mothering instinct ...

We don't have much experience with tiny pups ... so perhaps this is normal instinct ... but we thought it was very sweet and were glad to have witnessed it ... We were going away last week and took Hayley (a few months shy of 3 yrs old) to stay with the breeder. She's not spayed -- hopefully she'll ...

Dogs with Jobs - Brittany

Was flipping channels the other night and spotted a Brittany! It was on Dogs with Jobs .... didn't get the whole story, but saw enough to love the segment! The Brittany helped with grouse counts before hunts. Beautiful dog! I loved that the night before they were heading out the owner couldn't let t...

Re: Leather collar sizing

Ditto on trimming the collar. When Hayley was a pup the collars the right length were too narrow. I chose the width I liked and cut the end off.

If you don't have a hole punch that works, stop by a shoe repair shop.

Hayley's 2-1/2 and still wearing her original leather collar!

Re: On The First Day of Christmas.....

On the 6th day of Christmas, my Brittany gave to me ...

Six Brittany kisses,
Five half chewed rawhides,
Four squeaky toys,
Three French hens,
Two shrieking squirrels, and
A grouse sitting in a Fir tree!

Re: squirrels

We also live in the city and spend lots of time in the country. Hayley hunts dead things too (although she prefers squirrels that move !) I just have to trust that the shots will do their job protecting her -- so far no problem. There's always gross water that they drink too. Somehow they stay healt...

Re: A GOOD Party Boy !!

Oh my gosh that picture is so funny! Reminds me of years ago when I was a teenager. We had a part Brittany and one Christmas she couldn't help herself .... the cheese plate was at her level. We walked back into the living room and she totally froze. Caught in the act ... with the Brie oozing out of ...

Sniffing Eyes?

Does your Bittany sniff your eyes? Or is Hayley just a bit odd? She has always done this. She does it to new people and old friends. She does it to us in the morning and when she hasn't seen us for a couple of hours. She even went up to doll on a chair at my Mum's house the other day and sniffed its...

Gardening Help ...

I've lost that gardening thread someone started but the scene that greated me on the weekend reminded me of it. I was quite pleased with myself for preparing the cottage gardens for the winter, for once. All the perennials were trimmed back and I stuck in sticks (from branches) to mark each root. Fo...
