Re: scared to eat-new behavior
Thank you both for the reply. Just an update- we concluded that it was the baby gate from the living room to the kitchen that was causing the issue. I've been keeping it down, unless the baby is being really unruly and won't stay in the living room. After a day or two and some coaxing, Tessie is bac...

scared to eat-new behavior
I was hoping to get some help/suggestions with a new issue regarding my 12 y/o brittany. In general, she is a bit of a timid dog- not super socialized with other dogs, more of a people person, has thunder and gunshot fears, and can be a little nervous when cornered by little children. She also is hy...

Heart Murmer
So I just took our 10 year old, Tessie to the vet yesterday to her yearly checkup. The vet we saw in the practice said she heard a "pretty significant" heart murmur that she thought was about a stage 4 (6 is the worst). I find it odd that no other vet had ever noted a heart murmur in any of her othe...

what a handsome boy! Congrats on your catch, we are so relieved. I wonder if this foster family realizes they are going to have to join ABR and keep us updated on his new life

Re: red spots/sores around his collar and neck area?
Tessie sometimes gets irritation around her armpits from her harness. I think she may be just having a reaction to the stainless steel part of the harness that the nylon parts attach to. Maybe thats it? You may just have to get a few different collars/harness types and rotate until the irritation go...

Re: How many non-hunting Britts here?
we do not hunt Tessie. She has the instincts to point, and will point squirrels and critters and such, but we are not a hunting family. She does very well with a nice long walk in the morning and a couple of jaunts around the block. She, however i think is the exception to the rule in regard to Brit...

Re: I feel bad about a stray dog.
i wonder if we could set up a "chip in" account to help buy a humane trap or a pen. i'm sure a few dollars from a bunch of people can go a long way!
Re: Changes
i enjoyed reading all your Cassie stories, and hope her memory will continue on in this forum. Many condolences.

Re: I feel bad about a stray dog.
i wonder if contacting the Humane Society of the US would help, or maybe the ASPCA... maybe they can dispatch some help for you! I commend you on your commitment, I know I would be out there every day too if i was in the same situation as you. http://www.humanesociety.org/about/contact/?utm_source=g...

Re: Am I doing the right thing?
you have a plan for hopps, and you seem to care alot about his well being, more than he having you as a mom. I think those are great qualities to have for dog parent. My Tessie and I live in a small condo with my hubby, two cats, me and Tessie. We make sure she gets an hour walk a day and several sh...

Re: why is dog more secure with dog than human - non britt
maybe also this is a confidence issue? My dog lacks confidence in some areas, and it took a while before she would walk with anyone but me. Also, is it just that particular neighborhood? Tessie gets scared of lots of screaming kids and we live near a school. when i walk her at recess time she gets v...

Re: bladder stones?
Hi there, I just wanted to chime in regarding the crystals- I work in a clinical lab and look at urinalysis all day long. Much information can be found out from doing a urinalysis test. Struvite (or triple phosphate crystals) only form in urines that are alkaline in nature ( ph above 7.5), whereas o...

<sigh> They are smarter than us. If you think about it, they really have us trained, not the other way around. After all its been 3 years and every day Tessie eats the toilet paper in the bathroom. and I've yet to learn to shut the door. If they ever get opposable thumbs, we're in serious trouble :s...

Re: This Was My Day ...
Sounds like a case of bad owners... and unfortunately they should be hiring a "people whisperer" instead. Glad they are going to split the bill, and that your baby is ok!
