Re: Investing in a fence for our Brittany - what height?
We've seen Ripley go over a 36" exercise pen when she was 6 months. After a decent snow fall and a quick realization that our 42" fence would often be shorter than that during parts of the winter, we went with a 5' picket style fence (doesn't cut off neighbors as much as the full privacy fence and I...

Re: Self Defense Against Aggressive Dogs
So sorry to read about your battles with the neighbor's dog, but glad to hear that Jill is doing ok. After having been on the receiving end of of an attack by 2 loose pitts when Ripley was a pup, I asked our trainer for a safe thing to use for aggressive loose dogs that wouldn't hurt ours in the pro...

Re: Meet the Cousin!
and the thought of any dog having more energy than a brittany is down right scary!!! One of the two best playmates we've found for the pups is a boxer (the other is a dobie). I swear she had springs in her legs but is one of the sweetest dogs I've met. She could sprint with the Britts but eventuall...

Re: heart murmur?
I can't speak to canine aspects, but I can speak from personal experience... I exhibit the same kind of behavior you described for Sammie when I have a really strong heart palpitation. It has the same effect as knocking the wind out of me (no gasping though) and I generally just stop, take a few dee...

I LOVE the pig piles!!! Looks like Kayla has that, "Can't I just sleep in peace?" look that will cross Chuck's face on occasion (usually when Ripley walks over and starts chewing on his head though, no pig piles in our house).

Re: Jill had a seizure - ANOTHER ONE! And another one!!
I'm so sorry to hear that Jill's seizures are back with a vengeance. Hopefully the meds will help get them under control. Have things been good since Saturday? Keeping my fingers (and the pups have their paws crossed) for you and Jill.

Our solution to the bell delimma (we had similar enthusiasm problems with Ripley) was to use two different doors. The door with the bell was the potty door and she only went out that door on a leash for a quick potty only trip, no play. The back door opens directly into the fenced part of the yard. ...

Re: New addition
I'll start teaching her tricks and stuff when she's about 6 months old...unless she picks up everything else really fast and I get bored. No need to wait that long for tricks. Ripley learned most of her stuff in the first 6 months. We had to do something to keep her teeth off the furniture and teac...

Re: Jill had a seizure
Sorry to hear Jill had another seizure, but glad to hear she's back to normal. Here's to hoping it will be her last.
Re: July 4
We use the ultra calm and thundershirt for Chuck with decent results (ok for quick, mild storms). For the heavy thunderstorms though, the one thing that seems to help him from hitting that peak panic mode is a nice kong filled to the brim with peanutbutter (frozen or refrigerated helps pace it a bit...
Re: Quirks
Jack can also open the slider and let himself out, a skill that I don't really appreciate much as he doesn't know how to close the door behind him, lol. If it's just the screen slider (and if it isn't... WOW... that's just scary) then an solution is to install a retractable closeline on the screen ...

Re: Dental work
He reopened the wound last night during a wrestling session with Ripley (it isn't for draining purposes, it was the site of the skin graffed to close the hole so it is too shallow and broad to stitch it just has to heal). So I'm guessing we lost about a week-and-a-half of healing. We hadn't had more...
