Should I buy a crate?

So most of you know how I rescued Hopps. Well, Hopps is a great dog, and he has never had an accident in my apartment, or even at other peoples' homes, except for my parents' house. I'm not exactly sure why Hopps goes when he is at my parents' house. We always take him outside, and he goes then. How...

Is my dog the bad influence or are they both together?

Although my mom didn't say it, I think she believes my dog, Hopps, is a bad influence on her dog, a 6 yr old lab, Jack. Hopps and Jack are best friends, and they love to play when they are together for visits. However, my mom says "Jack never peed or pooped down the basement until Hopps did" or "Jac...

Re: After ear Hematoma surgery

Hopps is just itchy... all the vets and I think its allergy related... possibly seasonal allergies... he is on a new diet... one he actually likes! but hopefully it will alieviate some of the itchiness... with some flax seeds, some kelp powder, and some wild Alaskan salmon oil...

After ear Hematoma surgery

Hey guys, so Hopps got yeast infections so bad in both of his ears, and then he shook his head, and his left ear ended up getting a hematoma. I took him to the vet, and agreed it would be best, since Hopps was in a lot of pain, for him to have surgery to get rid of all the fluid. His surgery went we...

Just brought Hopps back from boarding...

He loved it, but he apparently ran all day playing up and down the fence line with the other dogs :D . They asked while I was away, and I oked it, to feed him a mid day meal, along with his morning and evening feedings, to help since he was using up so much energy. He ate all his food, and aside fro...

Re: Should I worry about moles on his crotch-al area?

thanks guys. Lisa, I didn't know male dogs had nipples, lol but it makes sense! I'm almost positive that is what they are, because they are evenly spaced, on both sides, just like you said. I guess having labs before, their fur always covered up their nipples!

Re: Who's had other breeds?

In looking at this as gun dogs in the sense of that is what the breed is, and not actually having any hunting experience with dogs, I really have to go with the hound Brittany mutt mix. I've grown up with labs, and they have been great dogs. But both are gun shy. The mutt, though, is not gun shy, ha...

First time boarding my dog while away...

So I finally found a place that I feel comfortable with leaving Hopps for a week while I'm on vacation (its too expensive on a grad school budget right now to take him with me). I'm excited, but as the date approaches I'm starting to get nervous. I just want to make sure I am bringing all the essent...

Re: The Lost Dogs

Ugh Vick and people like him make me sick. Have any of you watched that pitbull documentary on netflix? I watched it, and it made me even more angry. Not just about dog fighting, which is rediculously disturbing, but also the whole BSL, especially in Denver and Miami. It tears me up that they actual...

Re: heartworm protection

I was using trifexis, the all in one heartworm protection and flea and tick protection... but even if it is cheaper, I was really questioning if it was necessary to have an all in one... especially since fleas and ticks are less active in really cold winters, so likely it is overkill in winter... so...

Re: Hopps just bit my boyfriend

Just to give you all a quick update... So its been awhile and Hopps and I are on week 5 into our training... so far he has made huge improvements! First of all, I rarely feed him in his bowl anymore, I've been getting him used to a crate so I've been feeding him in there, as well as just dropping pi...

why does he take forever to poop?

So for whatever reason, Hopps always takes forever to find that perfect spot to poop. It doesn't matter if we are running, on a walk, or I just bring him out... he loves to sniff around forever before finally finding "the spot". Peeing is no problem. And his poops come out clean... it isn't as if he...

Re: Naming Contest

I use "go potty" too, but for pooping, since it takes him forever (I swear, that dog gets a joy out of finding the RIGHT spot to go, is anyone else's dog like this?) I use "go poop!" haha I figure might as well be straight forward, especially since I'm not a morning person at 7 am when he has to pee...
