Re: Rocket/Jack

So sorry about Rocket. Nothing can lift spirits like a new puppy :) Life tends to come full circle, I'm sure you'll see Rocket in your new puppy.

more Toby problems

This is a two-parter: 1) Toby, the Destroyer  , is at it again. I decided to start leaving him out again, and came home to this mess yesterday. The purple pieces came from a pair of my flip flops :x. https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/t1.0-9/10489759_10202420151487128_68...

Toby, the destroyer

After a month of being left outside his crate everyday while I'm at work, Toby (14 months old) yesterday decided the couch would look better with a hole in it. I wish I had a taken a picture right away, him surrounded by couch fluff, but unfortunately I was too angry at the time to think about how f...

Re: Running Away!

Want to provide an update, since I got so much great advice. I decided against the flexi lead, I don't think I would be consistent enough in training to introduce it just yet. I did pick up a cheap e-collar online. It has beep, vibrate, and shock. He doesn't respond (or notice?) the beep at all. The...

Re: 2013 Puppy updates?

Aww Bailey is so cute. I wish I had taken more pictures of Toby as a pup. I took a ton but still wish I had more! Anyway here's my puppy update: TOBY IS ONE YEAR OLD!! I can't believe it, but my little monster is all grown up! Well, sort of.. he still seems to have a puppy brain (or maybe it's just ...

Re: Running Away!

Hi - Thank you!! Great ideas. The hands free leash is so smart. How do you like flexi-leads. I've always been opposed, but I'm starting to think it might make for a much more enjoyable walk with my pup. Has anyone actually seen bad side effects?

Running Away!

:!: :!: Huge problem has come up with my pup, Toby, who is now almost 11 months old. He has OK recall in normal situations, though it has actually gotten worse since around 8 months old. The emergency is when he accidentally gets loose. This morning I dropped his leash (accidentally) and he sprinted...

Sneezing

For the past couple of days, Toby (10 mo old Brit) has been sneezing excessively. Spring just came to the city this week, so I'm wondering if this could be allergies? Not sure if that affects dogs. Or could he have eaten something or is being exposed to something he is allergic to? There has been no...

Re: Brittany video

LOVE the puppies pulling down the trash can. That pretty much sums up Brittany pups as far as I'm concerned!!

The easy to train part made me sigh. There's a difference between intelligence and obedience. But everything else seems pretty spot on: great family dogs that love to run and use their nose!

Re: Challenges at 8 months

Yes, I have started experimenting leaving Toby out of his crate. He is totally fine at night, in my bedroom (door shut). No potty regression or any chewing issues (first few nights my room was bare, now it's just normal). He does get up and walk around a few times. If I know I need a good night's sl...

Re: Challenges at 8 months

Lisa- That's very encouraging. How does training loose leash differ from the heel training? The constant click/treat method is what we used in class too, but it was still very difficult for Toby. How do I teach that he doesn't have to be by my side, he just can't be at the end of his leash? Or shoul...

Re: Challenges at 8 months

I agree with Lisa on the puppy play situation. Brittanys have a certain play style, and they (and all puppies) learn to play well by playing with other dogs. He's going to miss out on these key learnings if he never gets to play with other dogs (especially while he's a puppy). I know daycare sometim...
