Re: Don't know what to think of this...

Shannon, if you go to this website: http://abrionline.org/videos.php and scroll down to the video "Managing Arousal" by Patricia McConnell, I think you might find a very similar situation to the one you've described. If the emotional tone of the situation shown here looks at all like what you've had...

Re: Food suggestions

Keeping my fingers crossed that the switch takes care of the allergy issues for your Springer. For Kibo, it took about two weeks to notice substantial improvement, and probably another week or so until he was completely fine. It also takes about a week or two for him to go back into "itchy mode" whe...

Re: seasonal allergies

Kibo developed seasonal allergies (both fall and spring) during the past two years. Even high doses of benadryl did nothing for him. I switched him to raw food during allergy season last fall. For the first month or so, I fed him nothing but raw beef tripe. The itchyness cleared up within two or thr...

Re: Brittanys - the Gardener's Helper

Kibo and I have divided up the territory: I get to dig for carrots and radishes in the raised beds, he gets to dig for chipmunks in the woods. In each case, the other one of us is expected to look on politely, while mildly pretending to share the excitement. The only time I have to be careful is whe...

Re: Hypothyroid aggression questions

Dave, has there been follow-up on this dog? They should definitely run the full thyroid panel, not just the free T3 and T4, before they give him meds. The free thyroid concentrations (i.e. the actual hormones) can change rapidly and are therefore not a very reliable indicator of thyroid problems. If...

Re: toe amputation

After yet one more trip to the vet to remove the last (previously overlooked) suture and some more days of healing, Kibo was back to "flying" for the first time again yesterday. :D While he is still gimpy, especially after a rest, he managed to zoom up and down his favorite near-vertical Hemlock rav...

Re: Say a prayer for Holly

Glad to hear that the immediate crisis seems to be over -- but it is spooky to know that she's got something stuck in her stomach that is big and shouldn't be there! How these dogs manage to swallow things down there that are too large to make it back up the other way is beyond me! Keeping paws and ...

Re: Mending Fences

About a month ago, I spent two panicked hours looking, shouting, and whistling for Kibo -- I'd left him with friends for a few hours, and they suddenly noticed that they were cooking steak and nobody was drooling on their feet  . I arrived back a their house to pick Kibo up, just after they h...

Re: Lola is out of surgery! Doing Well

Glad to hear that Miss Lola is recovering so well!

She and Kibo can have an "ugliest shaved leg contest" as soon as Kibo's bandages are off.

Kibo Update. (Re: toe amputation)

Kibo update: The biopsy came back negative -- the report said that all findings are consistent with his nail problems resulting from an old fracture that would not heal. Huge sigh of relief! :D He had his stitches removed today and is still a bit sore from that. Hopefully, he will recover more quick...

Re: She's Home!

Ah, yes, I can so relate to the "screwing things up by trying to make it better" scenarios. It took Kibo and me quite a few days to figure out who was doing what when on the three-legged routine. I'm sure you'll agree on the new routines in no time. In fact, it took me a while to start de-ins...

Re: Lola is out of surgery! Doing Well

Whew, so glad that things went well for Lola! I predict you'll have more trouble keeping her from over-using that newly-mended leg than under-using it. Best of luck to the both of you....
