A Brit that's TOO calm?

Hey guys and gals, Over protective mama here! My man, Bearacuda, is two years old now...and he's a wonderful dog. Not without a few issues, but I guess that's true for all of us. I've been concerned lately because he's been SO calm. Although he runs and plays when we go to the park, or for a hike, a...

You can't do that it the ring?

What is "that," you say? Run to the end of your leash and flop around like a fish! Bear and I showed in Rally Novice A for the first time yesterday. The show was WAY behind schedule so I ended up being way to early. I set up the kennel...in an unfortunate smelling corner of the horse barn that we sh...

What to expect for first Rally trial

So Bearacuda and I are thinking of entering our first Rally trial in May. We've joined our local kennel club and have been taking Rally class since last summer. We've been practicing and Bear is much better at it than I am! He knows the commands (even most of the excellent and advanced) and I feel l...

Re: Boys...are gross!

Thanks Barb! I should have mentioned that he eats Fromm Game Bird formulation and I supplement with probiotics.

I'll check the salt content of his food...good idea!

Boys...are gross!

Hi guys, it's been awhile since I've posted...but I have been lurking and learning a lot from all of you Brittany masters! I've got a question, but first an update...I just can't help but brag on my boy. So Bear, who used to be known affectionately as Bear-acuda, has outgrown the piranha, er...puppy...

Hair Loss

Hi All - Bearacuda (not really a good name for him anymore, as he's turning into a very nice dog) is doing really well. His puppy license expires this week when he turns one, so he's just in time to get a brain in that handsome head of his. My question is regarding hair loss. I wasn't surprised to f...

Re: Watching for Blastomycosis

Thank you for the info. We live in southern WI but have a weekend place near Black River Falls. We wil have to keep an eye on out dogs, a Brit and a terrier. ..always with their noses on the ground. We have a flowing creek but the lowlands are marshy.

Re: 2013 Puppy updates?

Sorry I couldn't update last night...I'm looking forward to reading about all the pups! Bear is on the right road...so much frustration was had trying to get him here. We're in CGC class (he's one of the youngest at almost 9 months). He's doing really well on the controlled leash walking, the downs,...

2013 Puppy updates?

Hi all, I was thinking it would be nice if we could get some updates on our 2013 Brittany puppies. I'm just wondering what the new antics, challenges, and successes are of the pups. Bearacuda is doing well, CGC is almost over...crossing my fingers that we can pass the test. I'll update more later. I...

Dog Park Play

Hey guys - quick update on Bear and a dog park play question. Bear is doing quite well, the magic mat in the kitchen is working like a charm...thanks for the idea (was it Adele?)!  Also, leash walking is going better, resource guarding is going better, last puppy kindergarten class is Monday and the...

Re: Raw diet, week 1 update.

all of his meals are frozen first to help kill off germs LizBot - awesome work on the raw diet, kudos to you because I don't think I could pull it off! I just wanted to clear up a common, but potentially dangerous, misconception. Freezing food will not kill bacteria. In fact, in my job as a microbi...

Re: Challenges at 8 months

Thanks for the link, Barb. It seems image shack has changed their format since the instructions were written, but I finally got it figured out! Barb J, no Bear didn't have any issues (health wise) from rawhides. He chews large pieces off and then guards when I try to take them (so he doesn't swallow...

Re: Challenges at 8 months

Yay Gus! That's a remarkable improvement on the resource guarding! I'll share with you what we did with our Bear, per the advice of our puppy class instructor. Bear was guarding marrow bones (and rawhides, but those are no longer permitted...another story for another time). So he was stiffening up a...
