PJ

I haven’t been on this forum in several years. I wanted to share with the group that we put PJ down last December mostly due to his dementia, but he was also having issues with his back hips. He was extremely anxious all the time. He no longer recognized people, didn’t love his car rides anymore, an...

Senior dog with possible early stages of kidney failure

March of 2016 I noticed PJ was drinking more water. His senior blood work and urine tests came back normal. Recently PJ has been drinking even more water and is always hungry to the point he was doing anything and everything to get food and is panting all the time. A few weeks ago I had the vet run ...

Re: The reason I haven't been here....

I'm so sorry to hear about Maggie. I have dogs that have passed over ten years ago and I still talk about them all the time as I miss them very much. It took my Dad two years to get over his last Brittany and asked me to be there to bury Brett's ashes as he knew he couldn't do it on his own. ((hugs))

Re: It's been a long time.

Can someone refresh my memory how to post a picture? I remember using photobucket and coping something.

Anyone on Facebook? You can find me as Andrea LeBlanc (Westfield, Ma)

Re: Just Passing Through

Guilty of the same as I think it's been a few years. For me I think Facebook as much of my attention. PJ will be 11 this month and is in the beginning stages of dementia. We lost his kitty sister almost two years ago, now he has a little brother who is a Ragdoll.

Re: It's been a long time.

PJ has been on Prozac for his separation anxiety for almost five years now. My vet said the Prozac and mediation for dementia can not be mixed together and would need to take one or the other. We both decided it was best for him to stay on the Prozac. He cries mostly during the afternoon/evenings. W...

It's been a long time.

I haven't been on this message board in a few years, something made me think of all of you this morning. It breaks my heart to see that Monty, Maggie and Kayla have crossed over. PJ will be 11 this month and has early signs of sun downer dementia. It looks I need to do some catching up.

Re: Thunder phobic

I just heard from vet, she said there are other drugs out there but she doesn't have much experience with them so she would recommend we go to Tuffs. She wasn't crazy about getting a second dog, she told us to try to have my parents dog come over to see how he does. She also suggested the crate when...

Re: Thunder phobic

I have tried Melatonin in the past. It seemed to work the first few times, now it doesn't seem to work at all. I crated PJ as a puppy, but he was never a fan of the crate. He does get crated at the groomers for a short period. I'm told in the beginning he tries to get out but then settles down with ...

Re: Thunder phobic

I am waiting to hear back from the vet, I will ask her about Xanax.

What are your feelings about using a crate during storms when we are home to try to make him feel secure?

Re: Thunder phobic

I have not tried different meds, I have the one they call ace for short. I will call the vet and ask. My fear with getting another dog is that they become thunder phobic as well or it doesn't help. I told my parents I may just have to kidnap Annanelle.

Re: Thunder phobic

The other day when PJ was home alone and a storm rolled in Mom stopped over to find him standing in the rain and more door chewed to the house. When I leave him home alone he has access to the garage and yard, he can't be left alone inside due to his SA. The storm before hit in the middle of the nig...
