Re: Info/tips from experienced Brittany owners
As far as yeasty ears go, we found keeping Buckley's extra under-the-ear-flap hair trimmed up helped because he will dunk and splash his ears in the water bowl. He's a very enthusiastic water drinker and will sometimes just play in the refillable outdoor dish for fun. Keeping the hair short helps hi...

Re: Breathing issues and vomiting/diarrhea
Thanks for the responses! Thank goodness, Buckaroo is doing much better. They got his vomiting treated and have decided to double his antacids to 2X a day to try to resolve his reflux and nausea. The VA vets agree the breathing issues are likely a result of the reflux but they are not certain if the...

Breathing issues and vomiting/diarrhea
Long time, no post and I wish I was returning for a happier reason. Hang with me because this is going to be a long one. Since Buckley and I moved to MS, he's been a relatively healthy and happy dog until last spring. We took him in for severe hip pain (he has arthritis in that hip due to dysplasia)...

Re: Jill had a seizure - ANOTHER ONE! And another one!!
Oh no, Cindy! I just the whole thread. I'm sorry to hear Jill's seizures have gotten so bad. My friend's Bernese Mountain Dog had seizures so I've seen first hand what they can do to a loving owner - and let me say, trying to deal with a seizing 100+ lb Berner on a forest trail is no picnic either. ...

Re: Bread dough...
The remnants of the bread dough did a number on Buckley's gut flora! He smelled like a brewery for days before I finally started giving him probiotics. It took a few days but slowly, the smell of dog breath has returned (joy?!?). He's since remembered "Oh yeah, I LOVE bread," and has returned to his...

Bread dough...
...is very not good for dogs and when they eat a loaf, it makes for an eventful Sunday evening. I know Buckley is a food thief and I'm usually pretty careful about leaving food on counters but today the baking bug bit me and I decided to bake up some mini loaves of french bread on the grill (to avoi...

Re: New addition
Oh for CUTE!!! (had to respond to the doncha know). I just got back from a two-week trip to an empty house and moped a little because flight delays caused me to miss pickup at the kennel. Puppy pictures were a very welcome surprise.

Sore footie?
Buckley cannot seem to stay out of trouble lately. Monday he must have hurt his foot somehow because since I got home Monday evening, he keeps holding up his left paw. I can't find anything physically wrong with it - no obvious signs of swelling, no cuts, nothing stuck between the toes or in the pad...

Re: FYI
I know Buckley will eat just about anything remotely edible (tea bags, anyone?) but I will admit he has taste. If there is choice of items, he will always go for the best first. He raided the bread box and what did he choose, not the wonder bread but the fresh crusty loaf from the French bakery. Che...

FYI
When a naughty Brittany opens your work bag, extracts an unopened can of wasabi soy flavored almonds, opens them, and proceeds to eat them all, you can expect said naughty Brittany to immediately polish off an entire bowl of water followed by most of the water in the toilet bowl and vomiting to occu...

Re: need help/advice
Hopefully the enzymes will be just the ticket for Farrah. Buckley's on Pancrezyme for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. He's gained almost 10 pounds since starting. He never had constant diarrhea but things have...hrmmm...firmed up a bit. The vet said I can expect more improvement after we reduce h...

Re: need help/advice
If Farrah is allergic to chicken and won't eat beef, how about canned tuna or salmon? Buckley has a long history of a sensitive tummy combined with frequent dietary indiscretions so there have been a few times when I had no chicken for his bland diet so I would just throw a can of tuna over some ric...

Buckley's on prozac and no skin or coat issues here. He also did well on Wellness Core. I had to move him to a lower fiber food because of the pancreatic problems. He's eating Orijen now and doing well on it.

Re: Chronic weight loss
Update! Buckley is now at 43 pounds. Woohoo! He seems to do the best between 43 and 45 pounds so I'm hoping I can start feeding him a little less. I dropped him off at the vet t board for the weekend this morning. I'm moving and the cottage is only a few blocks from the fireworks at the waterfront s...
