Re: First swim
My first Brit's was more dramatic. She waded out and seemed to be enjoying herself when she stepped off a drop off, disappeared beneath the surface, and then rocketed to the surface (looking like a trident missile) splashing madly to get back to shore. She repeated the scene several years later when...

Re: So many questions
As Barb mentioned, just (try to) be patient. This too shall pass, but it might take a while. As far as getting Rocco to pay attention to you, you might want to wait til he's with your husband, and get involved by loving him up. He'll find that you are as good at it as your husband is. As far as keep...

Re: Oldest Brittany???
I've had Brits for 44 years. 1 made it past 16. 2 made it past 15 but not 16. 2 made it past 14 but not 15. 1 only made it to 12. The current crew is ABR Alex age 13, and Feller age 7. The dog I mentioned earlier today, D2, is far and away the longest living Brit I've ever heard of at over 19 at her...

Re: Oldest Brittany???
I had a friend who fostered for Brittany Rescue in Texas. She had one named D2 (Dixie too as she had another one named Dixie). D2 made it about a few months past her 19th birthday. "Brittany Rescue in Texas, Inc. June 23, 2016 · Dixie Too (“Dickie Too” “D-Too” "D2") celebrated her NINETEENTH birthda...

Re: Yelping - uncontrollable
"JJ is an exuberant dog and loves life." Hi Donna. I agree with Barb. I have one too - Feller. He's a nonstop barker/howler/shrieker. He barks more in one hour than all of my other Brits have barked in 44 years. My other brit (Alex) has barked twice in 9 years. I have used an ultrasonic anti bark th...

Re: Dysplasia, arthritis or ???
Thanks for asking Barb. Feller showed immediate improvement after 1.5 days on tramadol and half a day on prednisone. He was able to more easily rise from a sitting position. Now after 4 days on tramadol and 3 days on prednisone he is maybe 90% of his old self. He runs. He easily rises from sitting a...

Sounds like Rocco is making progress. Congratulations. To answer your question, you could put an empty cardboard box in the back of the crate.mlynn27634 wrote: Does anyone have any ideas how to partition a big crate without a divider?

Re: 7 week puppy who won't sleep at night
I'm not sure that two different crates is a good thing. Two different crates might be confusing. Dogs are "den" animals. Most like the perceived safety of a den. So you have to get him to like his den. Feeding him in his crate is a good step. I'd start throwing treats into his crate to get hm to go ...

Re: Dysplasia, arthritis or ???
Well, I took him into the vet this morning. He jumped right into the truck, but I had to carry him out at the vets office. Of course, upon manipulation of his legs, he gave the vet no indication of a problem, but did not want to stand up from a sitting position. As I've said before, he shows no prob...

Re: 7 week puppy who won't sleep at night
I agree with Barb, he is used to sleeping with his litter mates - their warmth and heart beats. What worked for us in the past is to try to recreate that environment by putting a hot water bottle and old fashioned ticking clock in the crate. Good luck with it.

Re: Dysplasia, arthritis or ???
Thanks for asking Barb. He continued to show some improvement. He showed even more interest in his toys. He ran the fence barking at people on the sidewalk (one of his favorite things to do other than hunt critters and play with squeaky toys). So he has no problem running. He did his fourth 3 mile w...

Re: Dysplasia, arthritis or ???
Thanks for the suggestions, Barb. I had not thought about something as simple as a pulled muscle or tendon. He's been on aspirin and glucosamine for two days now. He is showing signs of improvement. He showed some interest in his squeaky toys today for the first time (he's a toy nut). He jumped up o...

Re: Dysplasia, arthritis or ???
Thanks again, Cindy. Yes he came from rescue, and he was tested. The tests came back normal. I'm not sure I can find the results 3.5 years later, but I'm pretty sure a lyme test was not part of it. He does not seem to be in obvious pain. He doesn't cry of whine when walking stairs, but he is impaired...

Re: Dysplasia, arthritis or ???
Thanks for the reply, Cindy. Actually, he hasn't been tested for anything yet, although the vet looked at him just before I picked him up from his kenneling. We live in north Texas, so we're not really in a Lyme prone area, and he's not a hunter so he hasn't really been exposed to areas inhabited by...

Dysplasia, arthritis or ???
My 7 year old rescue is having problems. I've had him for 3 years. He is a normal sized 34 lb Brit, so if anything he is too thin. He has great difficulty raising himself from a sitting or laying position. Until he was kenneled at my vet a few weeks ago, he was absolutely normal. No problems getting...
