I had an applicant that is looking for a pup that is birdy . He has gotten two rescues and they both hunt and live a great life in their masters house . Let me know about this boy . I guess though pups are easy to place without carting them all over the US . Thanks for fostering that older boy . 8) ...

I would be careful in the heat . A high energy dog such as a Brittany sometimes don't have enough sense to stop before they are in serious trouble . If my dog was laying down and panting I would stop the walk . Here in Mt. we seldom get many days over 90 and when we do about sundown it drops to the ...

Welcome to our discussions , and Thanks for adopting a rescue Brittany . :) How long have you had her ? I would agree that these are signs of being stressed . I would do as Lisa suggested and redirect her when she does this and teach her "Settle " . Whenever I have a foster that is stressed I crate ...

I'm sorry to hear this :( . Sometimes these old dogs break your heart , you wish you could make them young again :? . I used an aspirin a day for Amber and gave her those glucosamine treats . At 17 she could hardly squat to pee and I started her on prednisone 5 mg. a day sometimes 10 mg. . It improv...

I was full for # of dogs at the time as well as my foster homes , so our Mt. all breed transport coordinator took her in . She is from a kill shelter in Casper Wyoming . I am going to list her on ABR website to help medical costs and spaying is required unless it's medically prohibitive . I am respo...

Thanks Barb . In this case they are worried about malignant tumors . They did lung xrays and they seem clear . The vet is going to remove three of these tumors and biopsy them . Everyone please keep your fingers crossed . This old girl just came over and laid her head on my lap when I was transporti...

I was an animal control officer a couple of years . Most municipalities have ordinances about dogs howling/barking and they can probably use this as grounds to start an investigation . By law , a person has to provide adequate food and shelter . If they are feeding this dog and it has adequate shelt...

Question on Spaying

I was wondering if it is better to Spay a female dog after they get to middle age say about 6-7 in a Brittany to stave off mammory gland cancer and cysts ? The reason I'm asking is we got a 10 yr. old unaltered female Brittany and she has Mammory tumors , and the vet said it is aggrivated by Estroge...

It is a dominance issue and usually the males won't fight back with the girls unlike us  . They are going to have to step back to housebreaking 101 with the female . They might have to crate her while they are gone , then outside immediately after letting her out of the crate . It will take a ...
