We feed one of our dogs the Origen Adult and he likes it. Before switching to this brand, he would occasionally get ear infection and had doggy breath. After switching no ear infections and no doggy breath. (But still have to brush his teeth to keep the plaque down)

We had to change our routine - we now have a parka, Sorrel boots and plenty of plastic bags handy by the back door to try and minimize the recycled dog food the in backyard. Just having all the stuff hand makes it easier to do a -20C

Are you handy - can you sew? I made some for my dogs, but even so they don't get walked for more than 15 minutes when its super cold Here is a website that has instructions on how to make booties - I used fleece for mine. They are not perfect and do tend to come off if they go in deep snow or start ...

you really shouldn't have them pulling you by their collars They aren't - they have their regular $15 harnesses on! But I did check the local supply catalogue and the regular xback style is only $33 (not sure if it would fit Jack and Ruby as it is rated for 40-45 lbs and they are only 30-35.) That ...

I just tugged his leash to correct. He can't drag me and Ruby (his mom) at the same time. I kept both their leashes really short since I didn't want a tangle of the three us, then have a fall and squish them  They were running on either side just in front of me. His pace was kind of like his pa...

Ski-jorring - sort of

Yay - the weather forecast was finally right and it finally warmed up to 0C (32F) I was brave and tried taking both dogs cross-county skiing. We don't have the correct ski-joring stuff but made do with a retro belt from the 70's, their regular harnesses and flexis. There was more than the usual amou...

Jack had the tug a jug with the real rope. The rope seemed to be so tightly wound that the rope was gone after 15 minutes of play. We still use it occasionally without the rope - just really big piece of treats that are hard to come out.

I like the heat since we get to +30C in the summer too. But I don't think I could ever permanently move south - TOO many big bugs that don't get killed off by the cold. And I would miss the sun going down at 9:00-9:30pm in the summer. But I Love to Visit the tropical areas! (went to beautiful Maui l...

The Unremitting Cold

Well we have been enduring temperatures of -30C (-42C with the windchill) for the last 4-5 weeks. We had 2 nice (-20C) on the weekend when we got out for longer walks but that's it!! The dogs are a little stir crazy from being inside so we set up our own version of agility - from couch to couch to f...

This is common occurence in our house. Last year it got bad enough that I had to take him out with a leash into the fenced back yard, so I could get him back inside before going to work (too fast to catch for sure). After about 4 weeks of this, he kind of got back in the routine again of coming in i...
