The Dog Democratic Process

This was told by a Lakota elder to an anthropologist who published it in Native American Myths and Legends, so it must be true.... Before the Great Spirit deemed it time for dogs to descend to earth, the dogs had a meeting to determine how they would run things once they were on Earth. They decided ...

Or, as the neonatologist said to my brother and SIL, "Crabby babies live longer." The baby in question turned 18 in May. Glad she's better! :D

During the day, Orion simply makes use of his brain wave transmitters--the two freckles in the white blaze going over his head. He uses The Stare to focus on me, and I am at his whim and will. First thing in the morning, he rubs his head along the edge of the mattress or imitates a deflating balloon...

The Orion Update

Sorry, no music to go with it. His Royal Arfness Orion Ranier has been on glucosamine/chondroitin for a week now. He's moving a lot better--still a little stiff, but he seems more comfortable and he's actually bouncing around a little. He's been coming up for a snuggle at bed time. He also sat in th...

 How old is the dear boy? Mature dogs get a lot of lumps. Orion has two lipomas and some generic bumps that popped up suddenly. He's 11.5. Our vet said that as long as they don't change color or grow and don't feel embedded, they're likely nothing. It is scary--once just after we moved into o...

Have you tried any plant essences? Like FES's Five Flower or Bach's Rescue Remedy? Those are both available at nearly every health food store in the world. I'm taking a certification class for the Spirit in Nature line right now and if you'd like, please PM me and I'll be happy to give you more info...

Schnauzers: are they indestructable?

My brother's family owns one named Toto (too many allergies for Britts). Toto is 12. By some act of grace, she has survived raw rabbit, three chocolate binges   , a cup of coffee--regular, mind you, and now she's recovering from pancreatitis. Her biological sister Baby liv...

questions to consider

Here are some creative writing/journaling questions to think about: 8) What does a day in your life look like to your dog? 8) What does your dog really do when s/he has to stay home alone? 8) What do you remember about the day you found each other? Whom adopted whom? 8) Remember the movie "Freaky Fr...

Try steamed green beans--great as a side dish or as a snack. Orion LOVES cauliflower, either raw or roasted, for snacks or as part of dindin or Brit breakfast. He won't touch lettuce, but loves all other veggies and fruits. He gets one Milk-Bone at bedtime or if I have to leave him home.
