Re: Males better at being a watch dog?

Daisy is a darn good watch dog - alerts and charges the window and basically acts hideous when people walk by on the street, what a character.

Re: VALOR Agility Trial This Weekend - 2 Q's - Video Added

Here is a video of our Jumpers Run! I don't know who's more enthusiastic - me or Daisy...she's a happy girl.
we had trouble hitting the tunnel instead of the dogwalk.

Re: VALOR Agility Trial This Weekend - 2 Q's

We have a lot of fun. Here is my beginner perfect 50 run (sorta like gamblers). Believe it or not this run is a Q at this level because it's beginner. Valor is very forgiving which is one reason it's great for beginners and people with distracted dogs. We finally made it after a few times - that's w...

Re: I feel bad about a stray dog.

How incredibly frustration and sad that the vet wouldn't call the greyhound group to help - so they don't care about this dog because it's a rottie? That's frustrating and disappointing. Are you using Petfinder.com to try and locate groups? Thanks for doing such a great job for this dog....

VALOR Agility Trial This Weekend - 2 Q's

Daisy and I ran at a Valor agility trial today and she Q'd on two of three runs - Jumpers and Perfect 50 (which is similar to a Gamblers or FullHouse in CPE). If you haven't heard of the Virtual agility league (the Valor League) is for people with challenges, dogs that are dog reactive, dog/people, ...

Re: Is it a brittany thing..

I experienced the same thing with Daisy Mae when she was younger. When I first got her for about 3 years she really didnt enjoy petting as much, as other said, always too much to do. She' come over kinda check your hands (for treats) then move on to something more exciting. Now that she's 5 (I can't...

Re: Hopps just bit my boyfriend

Oh so sorry. I agree 100% with Barb - be very very careful. At this point, I'd do everything Barb said and also, consider getting a behaviorist to work with you and Hopps. You really want to get a handle on this right away. I know Behaviorists are typically more expensive than a regular dog trainer ...

Re: Hopps is food aggressive

Agree with Barb, Mine! is probably the best book out there for guarding issues. If you can't get the book right away, here's a link to the ASPCA's
handout on Food Guarding. http://www.aspca.org/Pet-care/virtual-p ... d-guarding

Hope this helps.

Re: Screw Ball

Puddin, Like others have said, it sounds like a socialization problem. I learned a good technique for helping this from a Suzanne Clothier seminar. It's called "treat and retreat" What you do is have an unfamiliar person step into the dogs line of site - i.e. far enough where the dog is comfortable ...

Re: How can i get Hopps to fetch better?

You can try playing fetch in the corner of the room. If you start close to the corner they have nowhere to go but come back to you. Another idea is to attach a long line and enforce returning the ball. Some dogs really like to tug, and if you incorporate tugging when they return, that may help. Dais...
