Guinea fowl

Hmm...how about mentioning the coyotes you saw just the other day? Those coyotes sure looked hungry...probably would love to get the guineas..LOL You could also mention that you hope they don't pick up bird flu from the crows...a problem that could (you could say) be partially solved by keeping them...

Name for new foster

I second "Hugo." However, with a different pronunciation...calling him "Hugs" for short. He looks like a huggy toy. :D

Yaay. You BETTER go, Dave....or you'll never forgive yourself. This is what old hippies might say is 'cosmic payback' for all the good deeds you do. :D :D :D

Peanut butter

I have two new jars of Walmart's Great Value peanut butter..noth are the 1 lb 12 oz size...and I cannot for the life of me find any number on the jar other than the bar code numbers and the 'use by' date. Where on 'the lid' did you find that code? Perhaps the jars involved are only larger ones?

Turkey/dog interactions

I've had dogs hang around the oven door, sniffing the gasket until I was sure they were gonna get burnt whiskers. We called it "the adoration of the oven."

Muddy Paws

Oooh, boy howdy do we have muddy paws here...with dead grass. I have a cement floored room leading to another room with commercial carpet...and after THAT room is the laundry room. I buy cotton painter's dropcloths and use them on the floors...they are lightweight, fairly close weave, and wash...

Ruger's surgery

When my Dal had his laminectomy years ago he was really laid up for a couple of days - didn't move around much at all. We had a water bed at the time..and about the third day, we came home to find him sleeping on the waterbed..it was warm and he really liked it. His recovery seemed to 'take off' at ...

Test for deafness

There are specific hearing tests...BAER (don't ask what that stands for; I don't remember) is one of the tests they use for Dalmatians. Your vet should be able to tell you. If not, hunt around on the web for a Dalmatian rescue board and ask on that board. One way to get a clue is to try making a noi...

Shampoo

My guys run in the back every morning; it is now REALLY muddy. So every morning I put the smaller of the two in the laundry tub and swish him off with a hose. My guy Max, who is bigger, and also less an athlete, gets his feet and legs swished off in a tall tupperware container w/warm water. Since th...

Can they check for the slipped disc? I had a dal that we had to do a spinal laminectomy for...he just somehow clipped his back going under a fence rail or something and that was his problem.. the laminectomy took off the top part of the spinal bone(s) and lets the cord float free without pinching. T...

Fussy Feet

Doug, I'd suggest that before you start any nail trimming that you get your girl to hold still while you hold her feet. Gently pick up one foot, pet it for a while and reward, continue with the other three.. It might be a good idea to get her to lay on her side while you do this..then it is a short ...

Doggie door troll dogs

We had to build a short 'tunnel' between our slider and the chain link small kennel yard - it's wire over a wooden frame, then covered with layers of heavy plastic. Max hangs out there most of the time..he can lie on the wooden deck and the wind/snow/rain can howl..but he's warm and has a great vant...

If it looks like it might come off before you get her to her spay appointment, you can use a teeny bit of superglue to glue it back. That might keep it from snagging. I had that happen to Connie once, and used superglue and a little bit of kleenex and that kept it together nicely until it grew out a...
