Re: counter surfer extroidinaire
It never ceases to amaze me how tuned in the dogs are with our routine. You just do something the least bit off and they will take advantage. Layla is our counter surfer and I "think" we're pretty well trained to keep everything off the counter and out of reach. But give her a minute and s...

Grain free diet for dogs - latest study
I recently received some information on a study that was done linking a grain free diet to heart problems. Just wondering if anyone else has looked into this and what your thoughts are. It certainly contradicts everything I've heard and read over the past 10 or more years. [url][http://vetnutrition....

It's always fun to have a new puppy on the discussion board!! Can't wait to hear more about him and the name you settle on.

Re: Gage crossed the bridge
Sooo sorry about Gage. This sort of sounds like how we lost our Jill. She was having seizures for a couple of years and they increased in frequency and duration. Then one day, all of a sudden, the vet couldn't stop them. You know you did the right thing but that doesn't make it easier or the lessen ...

Cats and Dogs
When we first adopted Layla we were a bit concerned that we'd have to constantly supervise her around Sam (our cat). The first day we had her she took a giant leap from the bedroom doorway and landed on top of Sam where he was sleeping on the bed. It didn't take long at all to get them used to each ...

Re: Thanks for the add to the forum - New parents
Two for the price of one - what fun!! Can you provide a little background on them i.e. age, personality, etc. and pictures would be great too. I can assure you that you will have many fun filled days ahead of you (and perhaps a few challenges)! We do alot of hiking with our dogs and there's no bette...

Re: Trapper has crossed the bridge
I'm really sorry to hear about Trapper. He was one of a kind and I know he'll be missed. It's always so hard to lose one of your pack and things just aren't the same.

I saw that too and thought "wow a Brittany that doesn't pull on a leash!" Super cute!
Re: Stubborn
Layla does the GI Joe move too but we call it frogging as she looks like one with those long legs stretched out behind her. You really do have to laugh at them.

Re: Prozac for Dogs
My friend has used it with her German Shepherd (or corgi - can't remember which dog) who has noise phobias. As I recall it was effective but I can double check with her if you want. UPDATE:. I asked my friend about the Prozac and she said it worked but not as well as Gabapentin, the drug he is now o...
Re: Stubborn
Sorry - I don't have any suggestions (except to ignore the behavior) but I am still laughing about him becoming dead weight! These dogs are just too smart sometimes.

Re: weird episode
I wasn't home when something "kind of similar" happened with Kayla. John told me that she started running frantically around the house and bumping into things. He couldn't get her to calm down so let her out where she ran absolutely crazily around the yard while he tried to catch her. He f...

Re: kids and dogs
I can't imagine what it would be like to grow up without pets. I was lucky enough to have animal crazy parents so we always had 1-2 dogs (beagles) and at least 6 cats. I never went to bed without a cat snuggling up to me. If only they'd let me have a horse back then ... which is why I've had a littl...

Re: First swim
It's so much fun to watch your dog experience water/swimming for the first time. Even though Layla was 4 by the time we adopted her, we're certain she had very limited outdoor time. When she saw her first bird feather she jumped about 4 feet straight up in the air! When we took her to the river, she...

Re: calming biscuits
I've certainly had dogs afraid of thunder before! Right now, Pippa doesn't care about thunder or fireworks but cell phone noises make her hide under the desk. Mostly it's the vibration my phone makes and certain apps/warnings that she doesn't seem to like the sound of. Goofy little dog!!
