Re: Geriatric Vestibular disease

Scary! I have no experience so I googled it. It sounds like Kayla has a great chance of becoming and remaining her old self. I have my fingers crossed but it sounds like she will likely be okay. Keep us posted. I'm glad you posted, if I ever see those symptoms I will have some idea of what's going on.

That's hilarious - train the people! (sounds like a political slogan).

Re: Running Away!

I'm having the same problem with Tramp right now only he is 60 pounds. He can really scare people. He has to sit when people approach. I am ready with treats and have a tight hold on a short leash (so I can make sure that if he does get too excited and jump that he doesn't reach the people). If he i...

Re: Newly Adopted Brittany Behavior Concerns

You don't actually say how long she has been with you (or did I miss it?)... Anyway, can you put a crate in your bedroom so she isn't alone at night? That might solve a lot. But when Lola was a puppy she slept alone in a crate in the living room so it certainly can be done... I think the trick is to...

Re: Newly Adopted Brittany Behavior Concerns

Lola is great indoors too. When we come inside she waits to see what I am going to do and then once she knows where I'll be (living room, kitchen, bedroom) then she picks her spot and settles right down but she is always ready to go when it's walk time. On the other hand, now that the weather is bet...

Re: New pup to the house -adjustment trouble!

Great to hear that things are improving. It took Lola a long time to adjust to having a new dog ("affection stealer" to Lola) in the house. But it did happen gradually and you might still see some improvement. Mine don't play together but they can now play side by side with me. (Lola is a wader - sh...

Re: 2013 Puppy updates?

All the puppy updates are great. Everyone seems to be having an easier time, phew. But it gets even better.. training will move forward and you'll slowly start to see some common sense appearing. Still, the best days come after 2 years if you ask me... well, at least they did with Lola. That's when ...

Re: Tramp's Caught Ya Day

Thanks for all your good wishes. He is lucky I found him - my guess is he would be dead if I hadn't. But we're lucky to have him too. He's a good boy, just 60 lbs of cuddle. He earns his keep by making us laugh and giving us plenty of love (he was a superb foot warmer all winter - something Lola fai...

Tramp's Caught Ya Day

Well, it was on this day one year ago that I caught Tramp. I've been having trouble deciding whether we should celebrate his "Found ya day", "Caught ya day", or "Got ya day". I couldn't be sure exactly which day was "Found ya" because the first time I noticed him I thought he was a bag of trash that...

Re: Running Away!

Lisa's reply reminded me... when I did dropped the leashes - I didn't call "come", I said "Stay". Both my dogs have a pretty good "stay". It is so easy to practice. We practice "stay" randomly throughout the day. It's easy... when you get up to get a drink... tell the dogs to say and reward on your ...

Re: Running Away!

Since I've started walking two dogs I switched to hooking them up to a belt around my waist. I was constantly dropping one leash or the other  I just LOVE walking them that way. I really recommend it. Another advantage is that even with both of them pulling after the same squirrel I can hold m...

Re: Raw Diet Adventure Update

If you have a pet food store that sells frozen food they might sell frozen raw green tripe. I know of one but it's just too far from home so Lola has only had tripe a few times. Lola will only eat veggies if I pulverized them in the blender and then I make a slurry with a dollup of veggies, a dollup...

Re: Snorin' up a storm

I remember when Lola was little she used to do that... "maybe it's nice now - darn still raining.... maybe now - nope still raining... well 5 minutes have passed perhaps it has stopped..." all day long. Then she'd decide I needed to play because she had energy to burn.. when she was little I dreaded...
