Rock eating

Post by NancyH »

Hello all of my Brittany experts. Last evening I got a call from one of my adopters. Apparently her 8 year old, neutered male has decided to start eating rocks. They are finding them everywhere in the house but especially in the poo. I have no idea why dogs do this or how to stop it. I thought it may be a mineral deficiency. Any ideas out there on what they should do?

Shiloh does the same thing-when we walk every morning she constantly picks up stones . Of course she spits it out when I tell her to leave it, as she knows she gets a treat. I've also caught her digging in the backyard trying to get down to the rock on occasion( out of boredom I think) Our 1st pup ate rocks as well when she was a puppy and then outgrew it.Thankfully it never caused any problems. I'll be interested to find out what to do about it. I know it can't be good to pass through their system!
