Another BS report.
(1) Saying that the protein content is being replaced with vegetables is not a true statement....the protein content is being replaced with MEAT sources, the natural diet of a carnivore.
(2) Homemade diets are more nutritious if you are using real foods....meat, animal fat, bones, a bit of veg. If you are using grains, too much veg, carbs, then it is NOT a nutritious diet for a carnivore.
(3) Quoting..."In some cases this might be true, but the smaller companies often lack the studies and data to make sure their diets are suited for long-term. They also don’t usually have the infrastructure built to implement extra safety checks to make sure your dog doesn’t get a bad batch.” This is pure hyperbole and in fact abusing facts....the smaller companies are striving very hard to offer a safe and proper diet for carnivores. Just look back a few years to all the recalls on the "big names" in kibble. The "bad batch" remark is total misdirection and malicious.
(4 )Raw food is a perfectly normal and natural diet for a carnivore. This article denying that pure fact flies in the face of the thousands of years that the canine carnivore has survived and excelled with consuming a "raw" diet. Because dogs are hunters/scavengers they have even adjusted to a cooked diet, but it must be real food, high in animal protein and not overrun with synthetics and "filler" type ingredients.
(5) The quest for novel proteins stems from allergy reactions to common proteins such as chicken, pork, and beef. The nasty reason behind these allergic reactions is because many vaccination formulas contain some of the DNA from these animals, among others. So, the body recognizes the DNA that it has been programmed to fight and goes after it....voila, allergic reaction. You are left with little choice but to find "exotic" meat sources.
Do not take these articles as data based information. Check who paid and authorized the study and you will always find that it is one of the big names in nutritionally questionable producers of grain based dog food. They are feeling the pressure of people finally realizing that their dogs deserve a carnivore diet, not some other food that could/should be fed to cows or horses.
All animals (humans included) have certain foods that are important mainstays in providing a healthful diet for that particular animal. For dogs it is meat, preferably raw, but in some form meat from animals or fish. They also need animal fat as that is their main normal energy source. They need a bit of veg/fruit but really a small percentage compared to the meat/fat ratio. The ploy to get people back to feeding a grain based diet to a carnivore verges on criminal IMO. It is such a terrible disservice to a noble creature that has been put in our care. Dogs are CARNIVORES....we should strive to make their diet as close to that paradigm as possible. Again JMO
