Did your Britt make you laugh today? Did he do something so smart, you are blown away? Those puppy teeth causing you to tear up, and you need an outlet? Or do you want to post a picture of his or her latest point? This is the place for it!

Hmmm...here's my update.

Somebody (I don't know who) threw up on one of the dog beds last weekend. I washed it, and put another bed in the crate. Monday evening, someone threw up on one of the dog beds again(I think it was a cat this time...go figure). So, I put that one in the washer, and bring up the bed that I had washed over the weekend. I was making dinner at the time, so I threw the cover over the back of a chair in the living room, and put the bed on the chair. I went into the kitchen for 60 SECONDS to stir dinner, and went back into the living room to a shredded bed...thanks, Sammy. (At least he didn't get the empty bed cover.)

This morning as I was ready to leave for work, Emma threw up on a dog bed!!! I can't win! Between washing dog beds and trying to sew the ones that Sammy tears, I can't keep up with these brits lately!

And Emma ALWAYS throws up in a crate. She could be standing in the kitchen on the easy to clean floor, and if she has to throw up, she will immediately run to a crate and do it!!! :?

Went home to see my dad and siblings in Northern Calif for a few days and left the "kids" with my DH. No excitement while I was gone, lets see what happens this weekend when we bring our old Magnolia foster fella home from the hospital where he's been getting healthy.....

I check in every day and since I'm new even read the old threads for advice.

Our Gus is 4 1/2 months now and as, Brit puppies can be, quite the challenge, especially for us ol' retired folks! :D But, he's coming along nicely. He's spoiled with exploring a new park or trail every day, and we can't wait to master recall so we can eventually take him off leash in our beautiful mountains.

The dog training class he's participating in is a very positive experience, but it's extremely basic and we'll need to move up their levels to master some of the most basic commands. He's still not the model student in playtime, but there are three instructors on it and he's vastly improved. All agree now that he actually feels overwhelmed and isn't playing rough so much as defending himself without retreating because he wants to play SO bad! They get a kick out of his spirit, I think, more so than the GoldenDoodle who still sleeps through most of class!

At home he's finally earning the freedom a young pup should have, although the house is still stripped bare. He can scale the ex-pen sides like a cat, so that's history. And, yesterday he discovered he can sail over the gate without us bothering to spring for agility classes. So, with our open floor plan, when we are home he pretty much has the run of the house. He does well with being crated when we're gone and during the night and I don't see that changing anytime soon since it's WORKING!

We sure love this little guy. Have some challenges ahead as I'm facing a knee replacement after an injury so all the pup's exercise will fall to my husband for a couple of months. During the ice and snow season. :( And, it really takes both of us to wear him out! But, we'll figure things out. He's also settling down a bit better and FINALLY curling up beside me on the sofa for the cuddles and naps I've missed so much during the time we were without a dog in the house. Now, it feels like a home again.

I also check on old posts for advice. I went on vacation for a week and came back excited to find a lot of new posts, and was sad to see there had been so little activity.

Toby turned 5 months on Tuesday. His new adult teeth are finally coming in (no more needles!). He seems much more mellow than he was a month ago, I'm not sure if that's because he's teething or if he is growing out of puppy craziness (please?!). We are working on sitting and focusing for pretty much everything (treats, going through any doorway, food, meeting new people, getting his leash taken off at the park). I'm having a big issue with "leave it." He understands when I'm standing right next to him, but at the park, when he gets into something and I yell 'leave it', it's like he's deaf. All the other pups listen to their owners and leave the mud/dead animal/pile of poop. These pups come running back to their owners obediently. Toby does not. He just continues munching the mud or whatever. Any advice would be great.

Also, any advice for wearing out a puppy who has no interest in going on walks? We do daycare 2x a week, the park almost every day, and hikes on the weekends sometimes, but I would love any other ideas. I got one of those kibble dispensing toys, but he gets bored if I take it out more than once a week. I live in Seattle, so any ideas that avoid the rain would be great :)

No, they don't! :D Gus is just learning 'Leave it!' and certainly not out of controlled situations yet. I love hearing about your pup, who is just a teeny bit older than Gus. I have more success with 'Trade' - exchanging a treat or toy for what I want him to leave.

I just ordered this toy, thinking it might help wear Gus out. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042I ... PDKIKX0DER I'll let you know if it's worth the $10!

This doesn't wear Gus out, but he loves, loves, loves this treat ball and it keeps him busy. http://www.amazon.com/StarMark-SMBBOL-E ... treat+ball He'll be occupied with it for hours and the treat really has to be licked off so it's lasted more than a week.

I'd love to try a doggie day care. Might be a good idea when I have my knee surgery to be sure he's getting what he needs, too.

Sometimes, mine respond to "leave it!" And other times, "leave it!" means "eat faster!!!"

I think Cassie was about 3-4 years old before she had a really true "drop it-leave it" response. And she got better even with the "leave it" as time went on. There were a couple amusing permutations on this behavior.....when she was around 7-8 she still could quickly scarf something up, and if I didn't catch it she would carry it for a while and if I didn't notice she would turn around and give me a "look", and I could see she had something in her mouth. That pushed the right buttons with me, I said "drop it/leave it" and she did, for which she got a "Thank You". It was purely attention seeking  When we moved to an Airpark in '05 I used to carry a plastic grocery bag with me to pick up the occasional litter.....Cassie started picking up things....plastic bottles, Styrofoam containers, wrappers, etc., and wanted to carry them. She often carried them all the way home where "we" put them in the garbage, and she got praised for helping Mom...I called her my "litter-picker-upper-pupper"

Once out of puppy-hood she got away from wanting to ingest everything which took the fear factor out of the behavior. So, the future bodes well for this behavior, just hang in there for the 2000 (yep, thousand) reps

Wow, it's great to read some news! I'm new too, so I was checking in quite frequently, but since I found the Brittany fb site, I guess not as much. Too many cute pics over there! BarbJ, thanks for that link for the tail toy--that seems like a great idea as long as you can keep the tail away--Brits are FAST! I added it to my "wish" list. Tanner just turned 6 months...thankfully all shark teeth gone! He still likes to gnaw on people, but it's a gentle gnaw so I don't mind. I've started taking him to some fields with a flexi--he loves that. He actually pulls much less with that...just loves to cruise & run circles around me sniffing in the tall grass.

He really struggles with sep. anxiety though--especially when I'm gone--I am HIS person :D I started taking him with me to yard sales on the weekend to give us something else to do together. He's OK as long as I'm in site, but if not he's hopping all over the car going to look out of every window to find me! He has set off the car alarm 2X already--I had someone ask me today if he "knew" how to do it (I hope not; I think he's just stepping on the unlock button on the door). It's pretty funny, actually. Sundays are tough as we are at church from 9-1. He knows it's Sunday cause everyone has on good clothes! I feel so bad for him cause I have to forcibly put him in the crate--toys, treats don't matter. We can hear him howling as we leave  .

Anyway, I just adore my little dog...can't believe I lived 50+ years without a Brit!

Hopefully I'm not violating any rules here...it's just a facebook group called Loved by Brittanys...someone else here mentioned it; LOVE it--new pics/stories everyday! LOTS of rescue pics too, including many of the Magnolia rescues.
