Charm's first agility class

Post by Lisa »

Charm attended her first "big girl" agility class last night (as opposed to the puppy agility classes we've done). She was a fearless little rockstar! She ran through the tunnel and the tire and walked across tippy boards like she'd been doing it all her life. She was eager and straining at the leash the closer we got to any piece of equipment! Of course, her puppy brain was easily distracted...the bugs were particularly interesting and caused her to veer away from the tunnel more than once. In pursuit of a june bug, she actually jumped up on top of a tunnel! We've been practicing her 2 on 2 off contacts at home, and she's got the behavior solid...now we just need to pair it with actually doing an obstacle. I'm starting her on a quick down on a table and 2x2 weaves next. She'll get to practice full height jumps in about 2 months...I'm pretty sure she's full grown now, but I'm still waiting until she's a year old.

I can't wait until I can focus this energy of hers and start actually running agility with her.

Looks like you have your future agility dog star for sure. I'm sitting here laughing about the bugs though!

Oh Boy!!! Can't wait for each report :D Sounds like you have a natural, but to give credit where much credit is due, I think the nurturing has been exemplary and it is starting to show. 8) 8)

Teaching all of this to a "puppy brain" is quite an accomplishment. She's sounds incredibly smart and must have a very patient mommy. Congrats to you both !!!!

Thanks all. We're having so much fun. She is a very smart puppy, but sometimes, she just cracks me up with her antics. She's so easily distracted all the time!

I look forward to hearing wonderful things Charm accomplishes ... and about all the fun you have training her. Bugs, so interesting. Charm - future agility champ AND entomologist extraordinaire. :P
