UPDATE ON MOM.
Sorry for not getting back, Mom's surgery went very good, and she is doing much better. She is getting back to her old self. Debbie had surgery on the 15th to have her gal bladder removed lapascopic and that surgery went great. Debbie goes back to the doctor tomorrow, to see when she goes back to work.

Re: Prayers Need
UPDATE, Mom is doing great now, she got her shoe for the right foot and starting to use it. Mom had her 90th birthday Jan 30th
She is now talking about going back home to her house
. My older brother and my younger sister are saying this to her.
She has people that are coming in to visit her family, and the staff( they like her a lot) . I think that letting her go home is not a good idea, she will be up to the house all alone, and if something happens, I will be the one that will have to go up there.

Re: Prayers Need
Your mom is amazing!! I understand your worry about her going home and being there alone. My dad stayed in his old farm house, by himself, until he died at almost age 92. We did arrange for a couple of women to come and cook /clean for him every day and generally just provide company. But nothing ever seemed to happen to him during the day - it was at night that he would fall, usually on his way to the bathroom. Such a constant worry for all of us "kids" since no one was closer than a 3 hour car trip. If she does go home, make sure you get one of those medical alert buttons for her to wear so she can call for help if she ever gets in trouble.

Re: Prayers Need
Good news on your Mom's progress !! On the going back home alone, I hear you on that problem.....I wonder if she really wants that or is just trying to convince herself that she can still be independent? Maybe pass a few "ifs" by her and see if she won't reconsider. On the other hand, sometimes that "independence" is what keeps them going strong. I think Cindy's idea about the medical alert devices is a good one...opt for that if she still insists life alone is a good thing.
Hang in there...what will be will be.

Ron,
I just read your post -- take each day as it comes. Medic Alert devices are the best. They have portable ones now that run like $15 a month and put you in touch with a nurse immediately.

Re: Prayers Need
My prayers will join the others, Ron. A couple of years ago my brother-in-law was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He did lots of research, decided which option to use, and while he was in the recovery room his brother called to say he'd just gotten the same diagnosis! They are both 100% healthy now, and are participating in a study to explore family clusters. I wish for you the same rapid and complete recovery both these great men have had. LK Levine in NY state
